BMW, Toyota in Talks Over Engine Cooperation, Sueddeutsche Says

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) are in discussions over sharing engines, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported, citing unidentified people close to the negotiations.

Munich-based BMW would supply its diesel engines to Toyota in return for the Japanese rival’s hybrid technology in a deal that may be announced this week, the newspaper said.

Mathias Schmidt, a BMW spokesman, declined to comment when contacted by telephone today.
