U.K. Stocks Pare Gains; FTSE 100 Benchmark Index Rises 0.1%

U.K. stocks rose as the FTSE 100 benchmark advanced 0.1 percent to 5,225.05 at 1:33 p.m. after Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investors Service reaffirmed the United States’ creditworthiness after lawmakers failed to agree on budget cuts.

HSBC Holdings Plc (HSBA), the biggest European lender, and Standard Chartered paced advances, while International Consolidated Airlines Group Plc and BAE Systems PLC led decliners.
