The Taiex Index fell 0.6 percent to 7,000.03, the lowest close since Oct. 5 and the third day of losses.
Solar-component makers: Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (5483) (5483 TT) slumped 7 percent to NT$36.70, the lowest close since Dec. 5, 2008. Motech Industries Inc. (6244) (6244 TT) sank 6.8 percent to NT$43.60, a level not seen since Dec. 9, 2008, after Chinese makers of solar panels cut shipment forecasts.
JinkoSolar Holding Co. said yesterday third-quarter net income fell 74 percent from a year earlier and slashed its full- year module-shipment estimate by as much as 23 percent. Trina Solar Ltd. swung to a loss in the quarter ended Sept. 30, from a profit in the same period a year earlier.
China Steel Corp. (2002) (2002 TT) gained 2.4 percent to NT$27.65, the biggest advance since Aug. 31. Unit China Steel Global Trading Corp. plans to acquire Bamian Investments Pte for about NT$873 million ($29 million), parent China Steel said in a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange.
HTC Corp. (2498) (2498 TT) sank 5.8 percent to NT$600, the lowest close since Oct. 18, 2010, after its S3 Graphics unit lost a patent case against Apple Inc. at the U.S. Trade Commission.
Nanya Technology Corp. (2408) (2408 TT) slumped 6.4 percent to NT$2.33 after it filed a complaint against Elpida Memory Inc., Elpida Memory (USA) Inc. and Kingston Technology Co. at the U.S. International Trade Commission over patents for dynamic random- access memory technology.
