Brazil Coffee Crop to Fall in Year Started July 1, USDA Says

Coffee production in Brazil, the world’s largest grower, will drop to 49.2 million bags in the season that started July 1 from 54.5 million a year earlier, a unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report posted on its website today.

Stockpiles on hand at the end of the marketing year in June 2012 will reach 3.39 million bags, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service said. While that’s up from 2.95 million a year earlier, it is below a May projection of 4.94 million bags, according to the report. A bag of coffee weighs 60 kilograms, or 132 pounds.
