Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club, has discussed with the lenders to Battersea Power Station about taking control of the site in London, the Sunday Telegraph reported, without saying where it got the information.
Abramovich explored moving the soccer club and creating a leisure and retail complex alongside a new stadium at the site, the newspaper said. The discussions, which took place earlier this year, are not currently active, the paper said.
Real Estate Opportunities, the owner of the power station, said it’s close to announcing a deal with an alternative foreign investor who would purchase the debt related to the site, the Telegraph reported.
A spokesman for Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency, a leading lender to the power station, declined to comment, according to the newspaper.
