Nokia’s Elop Sees Room to Differ on Windows, Talouselaemae Says

Nokia Oyj (NOK1V) will have substantial freedom to differentiate on Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)’s Windows Phone platform, Finnish business magazine Talouselaemae reported, citing Chief Executive Officer Stephen Elop.

“They are our products,” Elop said according to the Helsinki-based magazine. “We get to make the final decision on how and when we differentiate.”

Nokia will nevertheless be careful not to fragment the platform, the magazine cited Elop as saying. The company is also working on “forms of user interface and platform that may not resemble devices as we know them today” in its longer-range research programs, Elop said according to the magazine.
