Belarus Sugar Beet Crop Is 17% Larger, Moldova Still Harvesting

The sugar-beet harvest in Belarus was 4.5 million metric tons this year, 17 percent higher than last year, according to the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies.

Production in Moldova is 82 percent larger with about half the crop harvested, said Evgeny Ivanov, an analyst at the company in Moscow. Its output was 403,805 tons this season to Oct. 26, he said. The yield in Belarus was 45.5 tons a hectare (2.47 acres) compared with 40 tons a hectare last year, Ivanov said. The average yield in Moldova is 26 tons a hectare, down from 34 tons a year earlier, he said.
