Featured Speakers Include St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy and Investor Michael Steinhardt
New York -- As hedge fund managers look back on a year filled with black swan events and face uncertainty heading into 2012, Bloomberg LINK will convene the brightest minds in finance to share their perspectives on the year ahead at the Bloomberg Hedge Funds Summit on Thursday, December 1 in New York City.
Speakers at the Summit, which will take place at New World Stages, will debate the future of the industry in a regulatory environment that has forced some of the biggest managers to close their funds, the impact of the European debt crisis on global markets, factors that are driving volatility in the equity markets and investment strategies in such an unstable market.
Whitney R. Tilson, Founder and Managing Partner, T2Partners LLC, who will be discussing long short strategies and the U.S. equity markets, said “it’s madness that institutional investors of the world are willing to accept 2 percent interest on 10-year Treasuries while shunning high-quality global franchise companies paying 2-4 percent dividends and trading at 8-12x earnings. A moderately diversified portfolio of the latter are almost certain to outperform Treasuries over the next decade.”
Additionally, participants will address what the election year ahead may mean for the hedge fund industry and how to scratch beneath the surface with regard when investing in China. The Summit will also feature a one-on-one interview with legendary investor Michael H. Steinhardt, who will provide his take on the future of hedging.
“Like last year, Bloomberg LINK has pulled together a can’t miss industry event,” Tilson also noted.
“The Bloomberg Hedge Fund Summit has become one of the most important gatherings for the financial community,” said Robert Bierman, head of Bloomberg LINK. “The program will bring investors, asset managers and policy makers to the stage to put the current economic environment into context and offer insight critical to managers as they focus on the year ahead.”
