Schaeuble Says He Wants Greece to Stay in Euro Region

(Updates with comment on euro membership in thirdparagraph.)By Rainer Buergin Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- German Finance Minister WolfgangSchaeuble said Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government wantsGreece to remain a member of the euro region. “We want Greece to stay in it, that everybody stays init,” Schaeuble said in an interview on Phoenix television. “Wealso want to help them to stay in it. But if a country can’tcarry the burden or doesn’t want to carry the burden, and theGreek people have to carry a heavy load, then we have to respectthe decision of this country.” While euro region members can’t force a country that wantsto leave the currency bloc to remain a member, “we’re notthrowing anybody out,” Schaeuble said. To make the euro region stable on a lasting basis, deficitlimits have to made enforceable, which includes automaticsanctions against deficit sinners, Schaeuble said.Link to Company News:2539Z GR
