Russia Wants Energy Cooperation With Germany, Sueddeutsche Says

Russia wants to establish closer cooperation with Germany for the supply of electricity and gas, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported today, citing an interview with Russia’s Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko.

The partnership envisaged would include construction, financing and operating of power plants, the newspaper said. Russia is ready to make the investment and preliminary talks with German politicians have begun, the Sueddeutsche cited Shmatko as saying. The first jointly operated power plants could be ready in four years, he said in the interview.
