China started a crackdown on “illegal” media organizations and “fake” reporters, the official Xinhua News Agency said today, citing the General Administration of Press and Publication and the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publication.
The campaign, to last through December, focuses on illegally published newspapers and those with serial numbers of overseas publications, Xinhua said. It also targets media companies operating without government approval, especially those established under the names of foreign media, and consulting companies disseminating illegal publications, Xinhua said.
