Fish, Berdych and Tsonga Join Djokovic at Year-End London Tennis Finals

Mardy Fish, Tomas Berdych and Jo- Wilfried Tsonga will join top-ranked Novak Djokovic at the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Fish, the highest-ranked American at No. 8, former Wimbledon finalist and world No. 6 Berdych of the Czech Republic and seventh-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France secured their places for the finals after Berdych beat Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic in the third round of the Paris Masters today.

The ATP World Tour Finals, the season-ending event on the men’s tennis tour for which only the top eight ranked players qualify, starts Nov. 18 in London’s O2 Arena.

The trio joins defending champion Roger Federer of Switzerland, Djokovic of Serbia, second-ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain, third-ranked Andy Murray of Britain and Spain’s David Ferrer, the world No. 5.

Fish will be making his debut at the Tour finals at the age of 29. He has had his best season in 2011, winning his sixth Tour title in Atlanta in July, and reaching the finals in Los Angeles and Montreal. He also made his first Wimbledon quarterfinal, where he lost to Nadal.

Berdych, runner-up at Wimbledon to Nadal last year, will be making his second appearance at the ATP Finals. He’s the first Czech player to finish in the top ten in back-to-back seasons since Petr Korda in 1991-1992.

Tsonga, who is also making his second appearance at the Tour finals, defeated six-time champion Federer in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon from two sets to love down. He also made the final on the grass courts of Queens, where he lost to Murray.
