Shanghai Pharma Ex-Head Sentenced to Death, People’s Daily Says

A Shanghai court gave a suspended death sentence to Wu Jianwen, former president of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group Ltd., for corruption charges involving more than 50 million yuan ($7.9 million), the People’s Daily said on its website.

Wu was convicted of accepting bribes, embezzling public funds and on other graft charges by the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court, the newspaper reported, citing the court. A call to the court after business hours went unanswered.
