Chicago Bears Defeat Eagles 30-24 in Clash of 2010 NFL Division Winners
Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes as the Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles 30-24 in a matchup of 2010 National Football League division winners.
The Bears (5-3) extended their winning streak to three games by scoring the final 13 points to overcome a 24-17 deficit last night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. In blowing a fourth-quarter lead for a league-high fourth time this year, the Eagles (3-5) lost for the first time in three games and fell to 1-3 at home this season.
“We had a few turnovers there, but we kept battling,” Cutler said in a televised interview. “The defense did a great job all night, gave us good field position and we were able to put points on the board when it counted.”
Cutler connected on 18-of-32 passes for 208 yards and his five-yard touchdown pass to Earl Bennett with 12:18 remaining gave the Bears the lead for good. Matt Forte rushed for 133 yards for Chicago, which overcame his two fumbles that led to Philadelphia touchdowns, including one that Brian Rolle returned 22 yards for a second-quarter score.
The Eagles, who last week routed Dallas 34-7, had their final drive ended when Jeremy Maclin slipped and fell one yard short of a first down on a 4th-and-10 pass play with 1:45 left. Philadelphia had one final play with three seconds left from its 38-yard line and Michael Vick’s pass fell incomplete.
Vick had 213 passing yards and an interception while LeSean McCoy rushed for 71 yards and a score. It was McCoy’s eighth straight game with a touchdown, tying a franchise record held by Steve Van Buren. With the loss, the Eagles slip three games behind the first-place New York Giants in the National Football Conference’s East division.
The Bears are three games behind the Green Bay Packers -- the NFL’s lone unbeaten team -- in the NFC North.
