German Greens Seek to Limit Bank Rescues, Handelsblatt Says

Germany’s opposition Greens are proposing that investment banks be excluded from government- funded rescues, Handelsblatt reported, citing a parliamentary motion by the party.

The motion, to be introduced in the parliament in Berlin this week, would limit rescues to a bank’s savings-and-loan business, the Dusseldorf, Germany-based newspaper reported. It also calls for creating a parliamentary commission to examine to what extent investment and retail banking can be separated, Handelsblatt said.
