Philadelphia Phillies Sign Free Agent Thome to One-Year Contract

The Philadelphia Phillies signed free-agent first baseman Jim Thome to a one-year contract, the team said on its website.
Thome, 41, batted .256 with 15 home runs and 50 runs batted in 93 games with the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians last season. He hit his 600th career home run on Aug. 15, becoming the eighth player to reach the milestone in Major League Baseball history.
Thome played with the Phillies from 2003-05. He has a .277 average with 604 homers and 1,674 RBI over his 21-year career.
