UN World Food Price Index Fell in October: Summary

Global food prices fell 4 percent in October from the previous month, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization based in Rome. From a year earlier food prices rose 5.5 percent.

NOTE: 2002-2004 = 100. 
Food Price Index: Is the average of the five components weighted 
by the average export share for 2002 to 2004. In total 55 
commodities are included.
Meat Price Index: Includes three poultry quotations, four bovine
quotations, three pig quotations and one ovine quotation.
Dairy Price Index: Includes butter, skim milk powder, whole milk
powder, cheese, and casein prices.
Cereals Price Index: Includes grains-- which consists of the IGC 
wheat index (consisting of nine different wheat quotations) and
one maize quote-- and rice, which consists of 16 quotations for 
Indica, Japonica and Aromatic varieties.
Oils and Fats: Includes eleven different oils (including animal 
and fish oils). 
Sugar Price Index: Index form of International Sugar Agreement
prices.
