Papandreou Welcomes Greek Opposition Support for Oct. 26 Accord

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou welcomed statements from the main opposition New Democracy party to support the Oct. 26 loan financing agreement for the country and said he would discuss the opposition’s proposals for a transitional government.

Papandreou said Greece belonged in the euro and that a referendum would never have posed a question as to whether Greece should remain in the euro area. Papandreou commented to his ministers in Athens today, according to an e-mailed transcript of his statements.
