Kazakh Grain Harvest More Than Doubles to 29.5 Million Tons

Kazakhstan’s grain harvest is 29.5 million metric tons, more than double last year, the Agriculture Ministry said.

The crop was harvested from 99.9 percent of the planted area as of today, the ministry said on its website. The harvest was 13.8 million tons at this time last year, it said.

Kazakhstan may harvest about 26 million tons of grain in “net weight,” while 90 percent of the crop will be food- quality grain, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported today, citing Asylzhan Mamytbekov, the agriculture minister. Kazakhstan may export 15 million tons of grain, according to the news service, based in the country’s capital Astana.
