EU Says ‘Not Sure’ If Van Rompuy, Barroso Briefing to Happen

A European Union briefing at the Group of 20 summit in Cannes, France, planned for today may be canceled, an EU spokesman said.

The press conference by European Union President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Barroso, which had been scheduled for this morning, has been delayed and it is “not sure” that it will happen, Jens Mester, a spokesman for the EU, told reporters in Cannes. Van Rompuy and Barroso are in an ongoing meeting with Germany, France, Italy and Spain, he said.

If Van Rompuy and Barroso brief the press, they will read statements and take no questions, Mester said.

“It’s not yet canceled,” he said. “We’re trying to make it happen.”
