Manchester City to Offer Tottenham a Discounted Fee For Adebayor: Roundup

The following is a roundup of soccer stories from U.K. newspapers, with clickable links to the Web.

Cut-Price Adebayor

Manchester City will offer Tottenham the chance to sign on- loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor in January for less than the 14 million-pound ($22.4 million) option the London club had agreed to pay at the end of the season, the Sun reported.

City is still paying half of the player’s 170,000 pound a week salary and would accept a 10 million-pound bid in the next transfer window to get him off the wage bill, the newspaper said.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Adebayor, 27, who has hinted he may be ready to extend his stay at Spurs and take a pay cut, the Sun added.

Just Say Sorry

Carlos Tevez can have a future at Man City if he apologizes for refusing to warm-up during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich in September, the Telegraph said, citing his manager Roberto Mancini.

The coach said “it’s very easy to say sorry” and blamed Tevez’s advisers for giving the 27-year-old bad guidance, the newspaper reported.

Huddlestone to Reds?

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone, out until December following ankle surgery, is a target for Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

The 24-year-old will be behind Luka Modric, Scott Parker and Sandro for a spot in the Spurs team when he returns, the newspaper said.

Fulham Targets Winger

Fulham is set to compete with Italian club Atalanta to sign Swedish winger Mervan Celik, the Mirror reported.

Celik is out of contract in May but his club GAIS hopes to sell the 21-year-old for a fee during the January transfer window, the newspaper said. The player is set to hold talks with Fulham “within days,” the Mirror said.

Beckham’s England Dream

Former England captain David Beckham has refused to give up on representing his country again, the Mirror reported. The 36- year-old, who has helped the Los Angeles Galaxy reach the Major League Football playoffs, has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

“I would love to play for England again, and I believe I will,” the Mirror cited Beckham as saying.

Stoke Striker Move

Stoke City plans talks with VVV-Venlo striker Michael Uchebo over a potential move, with the blessing of his Dutch club, the Mail said.

VVV’s Sporting Director Mario Captein was cited as saying by the Mail that it should be seen “as a sort of interview. You always want to talk to a player before you agree to sign them.”

Uchebo, 21, may move before his contract expires at the end of the season, the newspaper reported.
