U.K. Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said an offer made today by the government to labor unions on public-sector pensions is “affordable” and “fair.”
“This package is affordable, it’s also fair,” Alexander told lawmakers in the House of Commons in London. “If reform along these lines is agreed I believe we will have a deal that will endure for 25 years if not longer.”
The talks represent a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Alexander said.
