Uncle Mo Is Listed as 5-2 Favorite to Win $5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic

Uncle Mo will start from the No. 12 post position as the favorite to win the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, the richest thoroughbred horse race in North America.

Uncle Mo, trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, was given 5-2 odds by Mike Battaglia, handicapper for Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky.

Uncle Mo won last year’s Breeder’s Cup Juvenile, a 1 1/16th-mile race for 2-year-olds. He will compete against 12 horses in the 1 1/4-mile Classic on Nov. 5. The 28th Breeders’ Cup Championships, which consist of 14 races with $26 million in purses, starts Nov. 4.

Havre de Grace, seeking to become the second filly to win the Classic, was listed second at 3-1 and will start from the No. 10 post. Zenyatta, who became the first female winner two years ago, was beaten by the colt Blame last year.

Trainer Bob Baffert will run Game On Dude in the Classic, starting from the No. 8 post with jockey Chantal Sutherland at odds of 10-1. Sutherland would be the first female jockey to win the Classic.

New Zealand’s So You Think, ridden by Ryan Moore from the fifth post, is third at 5-1, followed by Alex Solis-ridden Flat Out at 6-1 from the No. 2 post.
