India’s Maharashtra Seeks 2.5 Million Tons Sugar Export Approval

India’s western state of Maharashtra, the nation’s biggest producer of sugar, sought the federal government’s approval to export 2.5 million metric tons of the sweetner, Vilasrao Deshmukh, science and technology minister and a member of the ministerial panel on food, said in New Delhi today.
Maharashtra’s sugar output this year may exceed last year’s production, Deshmukh said.
