Iberdrola Chief Calls for Halt to Solar Thermal, Cinco Reports
Iberdrola SA (IBE) Chairman Ignacio Sanchez Galan yesterday called for a halt to building solar- thermal plants in Spain, saying consumers can´t afford the higher price paid to the renewable energy, Cinco Dias reported.
Solar-thermal technology, which typically uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight for running steam turbines, is “economically inefficient,” Galan said yesterday in an earnings presentation, according to the newspaper. The 40 plants the government wants built by 2013 will add 100 euros ($142) a year to the average power bill, Cinco Dias said, citing Galan.
