SWISS DAYBOOK: UBS Third-Quarter Profit Drops, Straumann, Alpiq
UBS AG (UBSN), Switzerland’s biggest bank, said third-quarter profit dropped 39 percent after reporting a $2.3 billion loss from unauthorized trading last month.
Net income fell to 1.02 billion Swiss francs ($1.16 billion), the Zurich-based bank said in a statement today. The mean estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was for earnings of 318 million francs, after UBS said earlier this month that gains from wider spreads of its own credit and bond sales would cushion the trading loss and lead to a “modest” profit for the quarter.
