U.S. State’s Burns to Visit Japan, China; Campbell to Jakarta

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns will visit Japan and China on Oct. 26-29, the State Department said in a statement on its website dated yesterday.

Burns will discuss a “broad range” of bilateral, regional and global issues with Japanese officials and aims to build a “positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship” with China, the statement said.

Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt M. Campbell will arrive on Oct. 25 in Jakarta, where he will meet senior Indonesian government officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional events and upcoming meetings, the State Department said in a separate statement.

Issues to be discussed include the APEC Leaders Meeting hosted by the U.S. in Hawaii, the East Asia Summit and the U.S. - ASEAN Leaders Meeting hosted by Indonesia, the statement said.

Campbell will travel to Manila on Oct. 26 to meet senior Philippines government officials on bilateral and regional issues, the statement added.
