German Farmland Area Increases on Silage Corn, Ministry Says
Land used for farming increased to 16.76 million hectares (41.4 million acres) from 16.7 million hectares in 2010, Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland said in a report on its website today. Agriculture occupied 17.34 million hectares in 1995, the office said.
The area planted with grains fell to 6.52 million hectares from 6.6 million hectares last year, while land used to grow silage corn jumped to 2.04 million hectares from 1.83 million hectares, according to the statistics office.
