Louisiana State University, University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, the top three ranked college football teams, defeated their opponents in yesterday’s games.
Top-ranked LSU remained undefeated in six games with its 41-11 win over the University of Florida (4-2), Alabama shut out Vanderbilt University 34-0 in its sixth straight win and Oklahoma routed the University of Texas 55-17 to improve its record to 5-0.
At Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Spencer Ware carried 24 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns, while Drew Alleman added two field goals for LSU. Rueben Randle caught a 46-yard pass from Jarrett Lee as the Tigers took a 24-3 halftime advantage.
Jacoby Brissett threw a 65-yard pass to Andre Debose in the third quarter for the 17th-ranked Gators’ only touchdown. LSU’s Mitch Joseph scored on a 2-yard pass from Jordan Jefferson and Alfred Blue added a touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
At Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, A.J. McCarron threw for four touchdowns to give the No. 2 Crimson Tide the win. McCarron completed 23 of 30 passing attempts for 237 yards.
Trent Richardson added a fifth score for Alabama with a one-yard plunge.
At the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Landry Jones connected twice with Kenny Stills and once with Ryan Broyles as the No. 3 Sooners defeated 11th-ranked Texas. Demontre Hurst scored on a 55-yard interception and Michael Hunnicutt started the game with back-to-back field goals.
Foswhitt Whittaker scored on a 100-yard kickoff return for the Longhorns who fell to 4-1.
Among the top 10 schools playing yesterday, No. 6 Oklahoma State University defeated the University of Kansas 70-28; seventh-ranked Stanford University beat Colorado 48-7; and No. 8 Clemson University topped Boston College 36-14.
