New Zealand Defeats Argentina 33-10 to Reach Rugby World Cup Semifinals

New Zealand beat Argentina 33-10 to advance to Rugby World Cup semifinals for the sixth time in seven editions.

Scrum-half Piri Weepu kicked seven penalties and forwards Kieran Read and Brad Thorn got second-half tries for the top- ranked All Blacks at Auckland’s Eden Park. Aaron Cruden added a late conversion.

Tournament host New Zealand, seeking its first title since the inaugural edition in 1987, will face two-time winner Australia in the final four on Oct. 16 at Eden Park. The Wallabies earlier beat defending champion South Africa 11-9.

France defeated England yesterday to set up a semifinal clash against Wales on Oct. 15 in Auckland. The final is scheduled Oct. 23.
