Berjaya, Daya Materials. UEM Land, YTL: Malaysia Equity Preview

Shares of the following companies may have unusual moves in Malaysia trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the previous close, unless stated otherwise.

Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBMKLCI) Index rose 1.1 percent to 1,375.67.

Berjaya Corp. (BC MK): The property, insurance and gaming group spent 3.8 million ringgit ($1.2 million) buying back 4.1 million of its own shares, a stock exchange filing showed. Berjaya slid 0.5 percent to 96.5 sen.

Daya Materials Bhd. (DAYA) : The oil and gas services provider agreed to form a joint venture with Campo Sdn. to participate in the tender of oil and gas projects in the eastern Sabah state, according to a stock exchange filing. The stock declined 3.1 percent to 15.5 sen.

UEM Land Holdings Bhd. (ULHB) : The property developer’s Bandar Nusajaya Development Sdn. unit has received a notice for an additional tax payment of 73.8 million ringgit from the Inland Revenue Board, it said in a statement. UEM Land has “valid” grounds for appeal against the additional payment, it said. UEM Land rose 0.6 percent to 1.71 ringgit.

YTL Corp. (YTL MK): The Malaysian utilities, cement and property group spent 2.71 million ringgit buying back 2 million of its own shares, a stock exchange filing showed. YTL rose 2.3 percent to 1.35 ringgit.
