Vietnam’s Equity Movers: Can Don Hydro Power, Phu Nhuan Jewelry

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Vietnam trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 11 a.m. local-time close.

The VN Index, the benchmark measure of the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, fell for a fifth day, losing 0.9 percent to 418.18, the lowest close since Aug. 29.

Can Don Hydro Power Joint-Stock Co. (SJD VN), which generates and trades electricity, rose 1.8 percent to 11,500 dong, the highest close since April 14. The company plans to pay its shareholders a dividend of 1,500 dong a share on Oct. 28, it said in a statement filed on the bourse’s website.

Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint-Stock Co. (PNJ VN), Vietnam’s only listed jewelry manufacturer, dropped 4.9 percent to 38,800 dong, the biggest loss since Feb. 21.

The country’s central bank may cap interest rates for gold deposits at 0.5 percent in an attempt to decrease demand and curb speculation in the local market, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported, citing an unidentified central-bank official.
