Russian Rains to Exceed Average in Southern, Caucasus Districts

Rainfall that affected parts of Russia’s Southern and North Caucasus federal districts this month will continue through October, according to the Federal Service of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.

Rains will exceed the average by up to 35 percent in the two regions this month, the weather forecaster wrote in an e- mailed statement today. Precipitation will be 5 to 10 percent lower than average in the Central district and 10 to 35 percent lower in the Siberian district, where grain harvesting continues.

Temperatures are forecast to be about average, to 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) above average, in most parts of Russia’s European and Asian territory, according to the report.

The service didn’t comment on the potential impact of the weather on grain planting and harvesting.
