Insurgents Kill 8 Afghan Police Officers in Helmand Attack

Eight Afghan police officers were shot dead in an insurgent attack on their checkpoint last night in southern Helmand province, an official said.

Authorities are searching for a policeman who escaped the raid in the Nahr-e-Seraj district and is suspected to have aided the guerrillas, Daud Ahmadi, spokesman for Helmand’s government, said in a phone interview. Three officers were injured.
