A malfunction kept the Dow Jones Industrial Average from updating for 12 minutes after trading began at 9:30 a.m. New York time, a spokesman for the index’s owner said.
“Dow Jones Indexes experienced a technical issue that caused a delay in the updating of certain component data used in the calculation of the Dow Jones Industrial Average,” Richard Silverman, a spokesman for Dow Jones Indexes, said in a telephone interview. “The issue lasted 12 minutes and has subsequently been rectified.”
