Person Arrested After Shooting Near Papal Mass Site in Germany

A suspect was arrested today after a shooting near the site of a ceremony conducted by Pope Benedict XVI in Erfurt, Germany, police said.
The shooting took place between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. local time before the mass started, police in the eastern German city said in an e-mailed statement. Shots were fired four times in the direction of two security guards at the edge of an extended security zone. No one was hurt.
Benedict, the leader of the Catholic church, is on a four- day trip to his native Germany.
