Shipping Tycoon Fredriksen Tops Norway Rich List, Kapital Says

John Fredriksen, the owner of supertankers and oil rigs, remained the richest person in Norway this year after his wealth dropped 0.5 percent to 59.7 billion kroner ($10.2 billion), an annual list by Kapital magazine showed.

Fredriksen, 67, who became a citizen of Cyprus five years ago, is the largest shareholder in Seadrill Ltd. (SDRL), an offshore oil rig company, oil-tanker company Frontline Ltd. as well as Marine Harvest ASA (MHG), the world’s biggest salmon farmer.

Olav Thon, the 88-year-old real estate developer, came in second after his wealth rose to 23.9 billion kroner from 21.3 billion kroner in 2010. He controls Olav Thon Eiendomsselskap ASA. Odd Reitan, 60, who owns Norwegian wholesaler and retail franchiser Reitangruppen AS together with other family members, moved up to third place with 23.4 billion kroner, up from 19 billion kroner, Kapital said.
