Tropical Storm Ophelia picked up strength today in the Atlantic while Tropical Storm Hilary formed in the Pacific about 155 miles (249 kilometers) south of Puerto Escondido, Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in advisories shortly after 10:30 a.m. East Coast time.
Ophelia’s top winds were 60 mph, up from 45 earlier today, and the storm was 1,245 miles east of the Leeward Islands. Hilary may become a hurricane in a few days, the center said.
