Deutsche Telekom, Portugal Telecom: European Equity Preview
The following companies’ shares may be active in European trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Index increased 2 percent to 228.69. The Stoxx 50 Index rose 2 percent to 2,149.12. The Euro Stoxx 50 Index, a benchmark for nations using the euro, climbed 3.5 percent to 2,155.62.
Bayer AG (BAYN) : The drugmaker plans to restructure its diagnostics business and may seek a buyer for part of the unit, Financial Times Deutschland reported. The shares rose 0.6 percent to 38.96 euros.
Deutsche Telekom (DTE GY): AT&T Inc. (T) and the U.S. Justice Department agreed on a plan for handling confidential data in the government’s antitrust lawsuit seeking to block the company’s purchase of wireless carrier T-Mobile USA Inc., a unit of Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Telekom shares rose 1.3 percent to 8.48 euros.
Endesa SA (ELE) , Gas Natural SDG SA (GAS) , Iberdrola SA (IBE) : Spanish electricity companies may be active after the nation’s power regulator said it doesn’t see a case for paying them for back-up generating capacity and the nuclear regulator said it will recommend improvements to safety measures.
Endesa shares climbed 2.4 percent to 17.18 euros. Gas Natural shares rose 4.3 percent to 12.26 euros. Iberdrola shares gained 5.4 percent to 5.03 euros.
Portugal Telecom SGPS SA (PTC) : Portugal’s biggest telecommunications company said Banco Espirito Santo SA holds an 11.25 percent stake. The shares gained 0.2 percent to 5.61 euros.
