Biocon Rises After Starting Manufacture of Lipitor Ingredients

Biocon Ltd. (BIOS), the nation’s biggest biotechnology company, climbed in Mumbai trading after Chairman Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said the drugmaker has begun manufacturing ingredients for Pfizer Inc. (PFE)’s Lipitor cholesterol medicine. The company expects its Malaysia plant to be fully operational by early 2014, Mazumdar-Shaw said.

The stock rose 1.1 percent to 330 rupees as of 9:16 a.m. local time.
