Everton, Bolton Rally to Win in Carling Cup Soccer; West Ham Eliminated

Premier League clubs Everton and Bolton rallied to win at home against lower-division teams in the second round of English soccer’s League Cup.

Tuncay Sanli and Martin Petrov scored in the second half as Bolton beat Macclesfield of the fourth-tier League Two 2-1, while Everton defeated League One’s Sheffield United 3-1.

West Ham and Bristol City of the second-tier Championship both lost at home to League Two clubs in first-round matches. West Ham fell 2-1 to Aldershot and Bristol City lost 1-0 to Swindon.

In other second round games, Premier League clubs Liverpool and Blackburn were 3-1 winners over Exeter City and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively, while Middlesbrough won 2-0 at Peterborough.
