Russia’s Ilyushin Finance Said to Plan Order of 50 MS-21 Planes

Ilyushin Finance Co., a Russian aircraft-leasing company, is planning an order of as many as 50 MS-21 mid-range planes from state-controlled United Aircraft Corp., two people with knowledge of the matter said.

Ilyushin Finance will probably announce an agreement at the Moscow air show on Aug. 18, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because details are private. The leasing company plans to buy 28 passenger jets with an option to purchase a further 22 planes, the person said.

Russia expects to begin deliveries of its new MS-21 aircraft after 2016. The plane, manufactured by United Aircraft’s Irkut Corp. (IRKT), the maker of Sukhoi fighter jets, is aiming to replace a fleet of aging Tupolev-154 passenger planes in Russia.
