Buenos Aires Mayor Macri Expected to Win Runoff Vote, La Nacion Poll Shows

Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri will be re-elected in a July 31 runoff against Senator Daniel Filmus, according to a poll published in La Nacion newspaper.

Macri, a former president of Club Atletico Boca Juniors soccer club and son of a wealthy businessman, drew 52.1 percent support, while Filmus, a former education minister who’s a member of President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s Victory Front alliance, had 32.8 percent.

The poll of 916 people by Buenos Aires-based Poliarquia Consultores, taken July 16-22, has a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.

In the first round of voting on July 10, Macri took 47.1 percent of votes and Filmus 27.8 percent.
