Cadel Evans Wins Tour de France, Australia’s First; Cavendish Takes Stage

Cadel Evans won the Tour de France, becoming the first Australian to clinch road cycling’s premier event, as the three-week race finished today in Paris.

Evans, 34, runner-up in 2007 and 2008, finishes ahead of Luxembourg’s Andy Schleck in the overall standings. He took the race leader’s yellow jersey from Schleck following yesterday’s individual time trial.

Mark Cavendish won the final sprint on today’s stage, which ended on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
