Sarkozy’s Popularity Holds Steady at 36%, LH2 Poll Shows
French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s popularity was unchanged from June, a poll showed, as 36 percent of the people surveyed said they had a positive opinion of him.
The president’s popularity rose among women and held steady at 52 percent among seniors, according to the survey conducted by pollster LH2 for Le Nouvel Observateur magazine. More people affected by the financial crisis had a negative opinion of him, the poll showed. Sarkozy gained 5 points to 87 percent among supports of his ruling Union for a Popular Movement party.
The poll was conducted over the phone on July 8 and 9, with 957 people aged 18 or more participating. No margin of error was provided.
