Alfa, BW Plantation, Tower Bersama: Indonesia Equity Preview

Shares of the following companies may have unusual moves in Indonesian trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are as of the previous close.

The Jakarta Composite index (JCI) rose 0.8 percent to 3,939.47.

Energy companies: Crude oil futures rose to a three-week high in New York yesterday, adding 2.1 percent to $98.67 a barrel. Oil was at $98.71 a barrel today.

PT Medco Energi Internasional (MEDC IJ), Indonesia’s biggest listed oil company, was unchanged at 2,300 rupiah. PT Energi Mega Persada (ENRG IJ), the second largest, slipped 0.5 percent to 199 rupiah.

Metal producers: Tin for three-month delivery advanced 3 percent to $27,540 a metric ton in London yesterday, the most since June 14. Nickel climbed 2.2 percent to $23,900 a ton. PT Timah (TINS IJ), the nation’s biggest tin producer, gained 1 percent to 2,575 rupiah and PT International Nickel Indonesia (INCO IJ), the nation’s largest producer of the metal, fell 0.6 percent to 4,400 rupiah.

PT BW Plantation (BWPT IJ): The palm oil producer’s first- half net income may have grown more than 80 percent to 153 billion rupiah ($18 million), compared with 85 billion rupiah in the same period last year, Investor Daily Indonesia reported, citing Corporate Secretary Kelik Irwantono. BP Plantation declined 5 percent to 1,130 rupiah.

PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure (TBIG IJ): The provider of telecommunication towers plans to acquire 4,000 towers owned by PT Indosat (ISAT IJ), Investor Daily Indonesia reported, citing Helmy Yusman Santoso, finance director at Tower Bersama. The acquisition’s value may be more than $500 million, the report said. Tower Bersama rose 2.1 percent to 2,425 rupiah. Indosat advanced 2 percent to 5,150 rupiah.

PT Alfa Retailindo (ALFA IJ): PT Carrefour Indonesia plans to buy the remaining shares of Alfa that it doesn’t already own for 4,500 rupiah each in a tender offer, the retailer said in a statement published in Bisnis Indonesia today. Alfa was unchanged at 2,400 rupiah when it last traded April 27.
