Peru Stocks: Atacocha, Candente, Edegel, Maple, Southern Copper
The following companies had unusual price changes in Peru trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices are as of 4:10 p.m. New York time.
The Lima General Index rose for a sixth session, gaining 2.1 percent to 19,863.51. The MSCI All Peru Capped Index climbed 1.2 percent to 2,521.52.
Industrial stocks and utilities gained after U.S. shares rose on better-than-forecast retail and job market data, said Arlen Lahura, a trader at Lima-based brokerage Coril SAB.
Maple Energy Plc. (MPLE) , the oil and natural gas producer with operations in Peru, jumped 6.5 percent to 98 cents after crude advanced in New York. Corp. Aceros Arequipa SA (CORAREI1 PE), the Lima-based steelmaker, rose 3.2 percent to 2.55 soles. Edegel SA (EDEGELC1 PE), the Peruvian unit of Spain’s Endesa SA, climbed 3.2 percent to 1.60 soles. Luz del Sur (LUSURC1 PE), Peru’s largest electricity distributor, gained 3 percent to 6.20 soles.
Copper and zinc miners gained as the metals advanced in New York and London.
Alturas Minerals Corp. (ALT) , a Canadian copper and gold exploration company, rose 7.1 percent to 15 cents. Candente Copper Corp. (DNT) , a Canadian exploration company, gained 6.1 percent to $1.22. Southern Copper Corp. (SCCO) , Peru’s biggest copper producer, climbed 5.8 percent to $33. Cia. Minera Atacocha SA (ATACOBC1 PE), the Lima-based zinc and silver mining company, rose 4.4 percent to 1.18 soles. Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde SA (CVERDEC1 PE), a unit of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., gained for a fifth session, adding 2.8 percent to $38.06.
