Thailand Stocks: Airports of Thailand, Central Plaza, Thainox

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 4:30 p.m. close in Bangkok.

The SET Index rose 10.40 points, or 1 percent, to 1,083.08, the first advance in three days.

Tourism-related companies: Airports of Thailand Pcl (AOT) , Thailand’s biggest airfield operator, climbed 2.6 percent to 39.25 baht, the highest close since May 31. Central Plaza Hotel Pcl (CENTEL) , a hotel operator, jumped 4.1 percent to 9 baht, its highest level since June 1990. Laguna Resorts & Hotels Pcl (LRH) , operator of hotels in Phuket province, rose 1.9 percent to 55 baht, the steepest gain since April 28.

Thailand may attract as many as 18.3 million tourists this year, 16 percent more than in 2010, as the country promotes itself as a hub for travel in Southeast Asia, the government said in a statement.

Thainox Stainless Pcl (INOX) , the nation’s largest rustproof steel, jumped 9.5 percent to 2.08 baht, the highest close since the company listed in December 2004. Posco, the world’s third-largest steelmaker, offered to buy the shares it doesn’t already own in Thainox for 2.20 baht apiece, the Thai steelmaker said in a regulatory filing. Posco offered to buy shares held by the family of Thainox Chairman Prayudh Mahagitsiri and other investors, the Thai company said.

Thai Film Industries Pcl (TFI) , a maker of packaging films also controlled by the Mahagitsiri family, rose 3.3 percent to 2.48 baht, the highest since May 24.
