Anglo American Platinum Workers to Vote on Strike as Pay Talks Break Down

Anglo American Platinum Ltd. workers represented by the National Union of Mineworkers in South Africa will vote on whether to go on strike after pay talks held today failed to secure an agreement.

“The NUM took a decision not to continue with talks with the company tomorrow and to proceed with consultation with members to ask for a mandate” to strike, the labor union said in an e-mailed statement today.

The union, which is asking for a 20 percent pay increase for its members, is being offered 4.6 percent by the Anglo unit, it said.
