Switzerland Equity Preview: Nestle SA, Novartis AG, UBS AG

The following is a list of companies whose shares may have unusual price changes in Zurich. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names. Share prices are from the last close.

The Swiss Market Index (SMI) of the biggest and most actively traded companies rose 0.8 percent to 6,237.81. The broader Swiss Performance Index (SPI) increased 0.8 percent to 5,731.47.

Nestle SA (NESN) : The world’s largest food company has been holding talks to buy Hsu Fu Chi International Ltd., a Chinese snack and candy maker with a market value of about $2.6 billion, said people familiar with the matter. Nestle gained 0.7 percent to 52.60 francs.

Novartis AG (NOVN) : The Swiss drugmaker won U.S. approval for a new treatment for a common lung disease tied to smoking. Shares in Novartis gained 0.4 percent to 51.70 francs.

Panalpina Welttransport Holding AG (PWTN) : The Swiss freight-forwarding company is aiming to boost its market share in air freight and may lag behind market growth in sea cargo, Chief Financial Officer Marco Gadola was quoted as saying in an interview with Finanz und Wirtschaft. Panalpina fell 3.4 percent to 111.60 Swiss francs.

UBS AG (UBSN) : UBS AG Chairman Kaspar Villiger said the bank isn’t discussing selling its U.S. wealth management business, SonntagsZeitung reported. UBS rose 2.4 percent to 15.69 francs.
